Be Anxious For Nothing

This year, I want to share my thoughts with you as you pursue a deeper walk with the Lord. Welcome to the 365 Days of Grace Devotional Series!

Yesterday was an amazing day, with friends, family, and experiences that made me feel like I was on top of the world. As I pulled back the covers on my bed, I hoped that the next twenty-four hours would be as rewarding as the previous ones had been…

…and then I heard it, the steady beep, beep, beep of an alarm. After a few minutes of searching, I realized that it was coming from my washing machine.

My BROKEN washing machine, with a door that wouldn’t open and soaking wet clothes that would never reach a dryer.

Within seconds, I had completely rearranged my schedule for the next day. I stared down at my planner, which I had just filled with appointments and phone calls, and started to stress.

In the middle of my sulk-fest, I remembered the Bible verse that I had read that morning: ‭‭Philippians‬ ‭4:4-7‬. And Paul, in his divinely-inspired wisdom, knew exactly what to say to someone who needed encouragement.

“Be anxious for nothing,” I reminded myself, “but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

With more than seven billion people in the world today, I know that there are at least a thousand who have had their washing machines break down in the middle of the night. But there are millions more who are feeling broken down this morning, and even more who are sulking through life.

If that sounds a lot like your current state of mind, I want to remind you that with God on your side, you don’t need to be. So “be anxious for nothing”, and trust that with time & prayer, the peace of the Lord will surely follow.
